Neetu Chandra is certainly seeing an upswing in her career. With three back to back successful films, Garam Masala, Traffic Signal and One Two Three, each of which saw her in different roles, she has just been rewarded for her persistence over the years.
One Two Three, in spite of being ripped apart in unison by all critics once the first screening was through, has managed to do decent business at the box office and has safely sailed through. Happy with the commitment shown by the young actress and thorough support she provided in the film's promotion, Kumar Mangat, producer of One Two Three, has decided to reward her. He has offered her two more films where she would be enacting the role of a leading lady.
Has she accepted the offer? "There is no question of me saying no to the projects, why would I say that", says Neetu gleefully, "Kumarji is such a warm person to work with and he has given me a role which I am sure would go down as being memorable over the years. I can't remember a leading lady getting an opportunity to play a Jat cop and I consider myself lucky to have said yes to One Two Three."
In a bunch of females, Neetu did stand out as the foul mouth lady cop. Was she ever apprehensive about how she her act would be looked at by the audience? "We knew what the target audience for One Two Three was and we were aiming for some complete time-pass 'masti' and 'dhamaal'. Once I heard the dialogues from the film, I knew I had to play my part."
"Remember, I used to talk about the dialogues when I was shooting for the film in the middle of last year. At that time itself I was so sure about the written part that it was a matter of executing it in front of the camera. I am happy that the hard work paid and today the spoken dialogues from the film are being most talked about", continues Neetu who has as many as four films lines up for release this year.
"While Rahul Dholakia's Mumbai Cutting is round the corner, I have UTV/Dibakar Banerjee's Oye Lucky Lucky Oye with Abhay Deol and Pareshji. Then there is Adlabs' Flat No. 13 B where I am paired with Madhavan. There is also another biggie with a top corporate house which I have signed but about which I can't currently speak. So yes, apart from beginning work on the two new films with Kumarji which would see me in a different light altogether, I have quite a heavy 2008 ahead."
